Grange Books, 2004
Hardcover, 160 pages
This volume contains numerous works created by Picasso between 1881 and 1914. Initially, the
artist's style was influenced by El Greco, Munch and Toulouse-Lautrec, whom he discovered as a student in Barcelona. Fascinated by psychological expression, in his Blue Period (1901-1904) Picasso described moral squalor: genre scenes, still lifes and portraits are full of melancholy. Later, the artist showed a keen interest in the figures of acrobats and began his Rose Period. From 1904, the date of his arrival in Paris, his aesthetic evolved considerably. The influence of Cézanne and Iberian sculpture led him to Cubism, characterised by the multiplication of points of view on the pictorial surface. In addition to a selection of early paintings, this volume also presents numerous drawings, sculptures and photographs by Picasso.
