Debt and Democracy is the third volume of papers presented at the 1989 Dar es Salaam conference ALTERNATIVE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES FOR AFRICA. The conference was attended by leading academics from the continent who came together to address the deepening economic and political crisis on the continent.

Volume III contains papers on the international context of the crisis, the continent-wide effects and the ways in which specific countries have dealt with the debt problem.
