This title traces the eventful and illustrious life of The Honourable Abe Abrahamson, from his boyhood in Bulawayo as the son of Polish Jews who emigrated to Africa at the beginning of the 20th century to escape the pogroms and discrimination against Jews, to his eventual retirement in South Africa. His political career, which began at the age of 31 in 1953, saw him rise to become a minister in the government of Edgar Whitehead in what was then Southern Rhodesia, holding the three portfolios of labour, housing and social welfare. He played a prominent role at the Lancaster House conference in London in 1960, which recommended a new constitution in keeping with rising African nationalism in the country. Ian Smith's unilateral declaration of independence in 1965 heralded the end of his political career.
