Illustrated with nearly 200 plans, maps and photographs. The Runcorn Development Corporation, established in 1964, appointed Professor Arthur Ling as consultant architect-planner to prepare a Master Plan for the new town with the staff of the Corporation. The plan deals analytically with fundamental principles of urban structure and communications which are of general relevance to the design of new towns as well as to Runcorn in particular. Amongst other elements, the introduction of the busway as a means of transport was revolutionary, but for various reasons has ultimately been relatively unsuccessful to the present day.
