Reflecting the perspectives of its time, the set places Ireland, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Canada within the context of the British Empire, with limited coverage of much of Africa and several modern Asian nations. Nonetheless, the work remains highly readable and historically valuable, especially when used alongside the extensive index volume.
Physical Description:
This is the scarce full white vellum/parchment-bound edition, each volume featuring a unique multi-colour embossed design on the upper board and spine. The plain endpapers, gilt top edges, and untrimmed lower edges reflect the high production standard.
The set contains over 16,000 pages, more than 150 plates, and over 2,000 in-text illustrations. Each volume includes a tissue-guarded frontispiece, all intact and undamaged.
The set is complete, with no ownership markings or inscriptions.
Condition:
The bindings are still intact across all volumes, with most covers clean, unworn, and free from chipping. A few volumes show minor interior cover wear, but this does not detract from the overall presentation. As the accompanying images demonstrate, the set remains attractive and well-preserved. Complete sets in comparable condition are increasingly difficult to acquire.
