The objective of this book, now in its third edition, is to provide clear expositions of personality theories, particularly for undergraduate students. This edition continues to cover the broadest possible spectrum of approaches. In order to cater for the needs of a diverse population of readers, some of the older approaches have been included because the terminology and ideas associated with these approaches still influence current psychological thinking. This edition focuses on depth psychological, behavioural and learning, person orientated and alternative perspectives. It omits the theories of Dollard, Miller, Murray and Allport, and updates and expands the chapter on the African perspective. In line with Outcomes-Based Education (OBE), this edition is presented in an outcomes-based, dialogical style. In addition, the implications for the interpretation and handling of aggression are included in each chapter. Attention is given to research, particularly to relevant South African findings and case studies.
