Will Alsop is one of the most exciting British architects working today, responsible for such striking buildings as Le Grand Bleu in Marseilles, the Ferry Terminal in Hamburg and, most recently, the Sterling Prize-winning Peckham Library in south London. In 2000 he was one of only four architects representing British architecture at the Venice Biennale. This book, the second of two volumes on his work, covers the period from 1991 to the present.

The book starts with the commissioning and construction of Le Grand Bleu (the Hôtel du Département des Bouches-du-Rhône in Marseilles), the project that established his international reputation. It will then cover all the built and major unbuilt projects of the subsequent years, including North Greenwich underground station on the Jubilee Line, Peckham Library in London, the Erotic Arts Museum in Hamburg, the large entertainment center at Almere, near Amsterdam and many others. His most ambitious current project is the vast 20 hectare masterplan for the center of Rotterdam.

Created in close cooperation with the architect, the book is lavishly illustrated with sketches, paintings, plans and photographs from Alsop’s own archives. Kenneth Powell’s text analyses the work and ideas, as well as providing a useful biographical context.
